IU Charity Case?

I'm only a casual fan of college basketball and Indiana University is not high on my list of favorite teams, so the news that Kelvin Sampson has accepted a buyout from IU doesn't rattle me much. What does rattle me, though, is the fact that $500,000 of the $750,000 buyout has come from an anonymous donor.

I appreciate that Sampson's anonymous donor must have had IU's best interest in mind. But seriously? A college basketball coach-- a creep, at that-- is a charity case worthy of someone's $500,000?

In the same section of the Courier Journal that reports on the buyout is a plaintive letter from Victoria Dempsey of the Kentucky Commission on Human Rights. They're $214,000 short in their budget. Interesting and sad.
